God’s Word instructs us to love and treat the strangers in our land with justice and mercy (Jeremiah 22:3, Leviticus 19:33-34). Safely Home equip volunteers from local churches to carry out this command.
In 2008, Cynthia Martin was introduced to a refugee family and as she helped them integrate into the U.S. culture, more refugees requested her help – Safely Home was developing.
In 2009, Cynthia founded Safely Home and continues as the director.
Safely Home partners with local resettlement agencies to assist hundreds of refugees become self-sufficient. These refugees represent various nationalities and ethnic groups from Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East who have been resettled here in Las Vegas.
Safely Home has grown significantly in volunteer support from local churches and in the number of ongoing refugees who connect for social
gatherings, like children's activities and sports camps in the summer and local outings. The refugees value the time together with each other and our Safely Home volunteers as we learn from one another.
