I recently participated in the ordination of three men as deacons of a local
church. It is a great responsibility to be a deacon. Before you are, Acts 6:3
says you are to be men of good reputation, full of the Spirit, and of wisdom.
In order to be calledout as a deacon you are to be Godly men. Men who are
looked up to by the community at large and by the church you are to serve.
Deacons serve as examples to the world of what a Christian is.
     I Timothy 6:1-6 describes the nature of a deacon. He is a man of dignity. He
is a man of his word. He does not get drunk. He is not greedy. He is
respected by the community. He knows the Bible and lives by its tenants.
When he fails, he seeks God’s forgiveness, repents and returns to serving
God. He is Christ-like in his walk. He is an example of how to live to all who
sees him.
     In this worship service I described 5 deacons. One was a soul winner, one
was a discipler, one was a minister, one was a peacemaker and one was
servant. All were model Christians. I was overcome with the importance of
deacons to a church. They hold up a high standard for the average church
member to immolate. We should all strive to meet the description of a
deacon in Acts 6:3 and I Timothy 6:1-6. Our goal should be to
become Christ-like in our conduct.
